This Week's Eco Tip...

We use lots of milk for Cappucinos etc in the coffee shop and have found that we can reduce the bulky plastic milk containers by pouring an inch or so of boiling water into the empty container, put on the lid, swill water all around including into the hollow handle, pour out the water and quickly roll up the container from the base (like a toothpaste tube) Then put an old elastic band figure of eight style around it to hold it tight. If you really want to save a lot of space, cut off the top of a container then place all of your previously flattened ones inside it. we reckon to get 8 - 10 2 litre containers into one.

Now that is a good idea Christine. The simple ideas always turn out the best.
Sometimes I walk through Saltwell cemetery on my way to the allotment. I collect the plant pots that folks throw away after having planted items at the gravesite. Even discarded pop bottles which have been used to ferry water, are collected and used in my greenhouse. My bottle top waterers are designed to fit them.
Our coffee breaks also provide little items for use....those small plastic cups make super pots.

You can be extra eco friendly by using the red elastic bands that are to be seen lying in the streets, apparently discarded by postal delivery staff. I am assured that they are biodgradeable...tidying the streets up at the same time, double whammy!
(Sorry Sid, a little constructive editing was required due to the blog reconstruction!)
